Chicago Underground Film Festival Prefers the Unusual

WDCB’s Gary Zidek catches up with Chicago Underground Film Festival artistic director Bryan Wendorf to talk about programming and the evolution of fest over the past 29 years.

Some of things that were considered underground in the mid 90s are now very much main-stream. But the Chicago Underground Film Festival, which was founded in 1993, remains true to its mission all these years later. The fest is still dedicated to what some might call cinema obscura, the avant-garde, experimental and undefinable. The Chicago Underground Film Festival kicks off its 29th edition on Wednesday July 27 and culminates on Sunday 7/31. Over a hundred underground films, including several world premieres, will be presented at this year’s fest.
