MCA Introduces Chicago Performs

WDCB’s Gary Zidek catches up with Museum of Contemporary Art curator of performance Tara Aisha Willis to talk about the institution’s new performance showcase, CHICAGO PERFORMS.

The Museum of Contemporary Art wants to shine a brighter light on Chicago performing artists. The institution recently unveiled details of a brand new program called CHICAGO PERFORMS. Set to take place September 15 and 16, CHICAGO PERFORMS will take the shape of an intimate festival designed to showcase a curated group of local artists. The inaugural festival will present brand new works by Chicago artists (pictured below) Erin Kilmurray, Derek McPhatter and Bimbola Akinbola.

Each of the artists will share a new work at Chicago Performs, including pieces developed through MCA’s In Progress series and the New Works Initiative. They will also receive production support, compensation for their creative teams, curatorial advising, and opportunities to connect with national performance presenters.

The inaugural CHICAGO PERFORMS will take place Thursday September 15 & Friday September 16 at MCA. You can find out more details by visiting mcachicago.org
