WDCB's Gary Zidek previews Hubbard Street Dance's new program, THERE WAS NOTHING/FOR ALL ITS FURY.
“They (Third Coast Percussion) have found ways of making sounds and music from some of the most fun and interesting elements that you wouldn’t expect. I think that sense creativity and innovation is inherit to what Hubbard Street is trying (to do). We’re always trying to explore and develop the artform of dance.” - Glenn Edgerton on why Hubbard Street Dance & Third Coast Percussion work so well.
THERE WAS NOTHING/FOR ALL ITS FURY will make its world premiere at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance with a 3-performance run starting Thursday September 27. The seeds for this multi-faceted program were planted around four years ago, when Hubbard Street Dance and Third Coast Percussion collaborated on a different project.
Adding to the collaborative nature of the project, indie music sensation Dev Hynes aka Blood Orange was commissioned to compose new music for the program.
THERE WAS NOTHING/FOR ALL ITS FURY will be divided into three parts. The program will start with a work choreographed by Los-Angeles based Movement Art Is (Lil Buck & Jon Boogz), the second part features a musical interlude by Third Coast Percussion and the evening concludes with Portner’s piece. The music will connect all three parts. And Edgerton says a theme of sustainability runs through the entire program.
Hubbard Street Dance’s collaborative THERE WAS NOTHING/FOR ALL ITS FURY will be presented September 27, 29 and 30 at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance.
