Civic, arts and theater leaders from Chicago gathered at Steppenwolf Theatre last week for an event that revealed 2019 will be the Year of Chicago Theatre.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel talking about Chicago’s theatre community

The Year of Chicago Theatre is the latest designation from Chicago’s DCASE. Last year was the Year of Public Art and this year is the Year of Creative Youth. Next,year, the city will celebrate the prominence of Chicago’s expansive and innovative theatre community.

Chicago-area native and Academy Award nominee Michael Shannon spoke about his passion for Chicago theatre.
