Any conversation about the best cinematographers working in film today usually starts with the name Roger Deakins. Whether you realize it or not, chances are you’ve seen the 76-year-old’s work on the big screen multiple times. The 16-time Academy Award nominee has created the visual style for some of Hollywood’s most celebrated films: 1984, THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, BLADE RUNNER 2049, are just a handful of the movies Deakins has been cinematographer for. Over the course a 50-plus year career, Deakins elevated the role of cinematographer and influenced the visual styles of a new generation of filmmakers. He’s collaborated with the biggest names: the Coen Brothers, Martin Scorese, Ron Howard, Denis Villeneuve, Sam Mendes are just some of the directors he’s worked with. You can imagine the stories he has …

Well, now he’s sharing some of those tales and more in a new book. Part memoir, part cinematography guide, REFLECTIONS: On Cinematography offers a comprehensive look back at a life in film
