Any conversation about the best cinematographers working in film today usually starts with the name Roger Deakins. Whether you realize it or not, chances are you’ve seen the 76-year-old’s work on the big screen multiple times. The 16-time Academy Award nominee has created the visual style for some of Hollywood’s most celebrated films: 1984, THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, BLADE RUNNER 2049, are just a handful of the movies Deakins has been cinematographer for. Over the course a 50-plus year career, Deakins elevated the role of cinematographer and influenced the visual styles of a new generation of filmmakers.
