“I think you walk around in there, I think it’s pretty comprehensive what the definition of my life probably is, one half is sacred, one half is profane, I’m still going to flip that coin and decide which one I might vitaly pursue.” - Tony Fitzpatrick talking about his new exhibit, JESUS OF WESTERN AVENUE.
Artist Tony Fitzpatrick and WDCB’s Gary Zidek
Renowned Chicago artist Tony Fitzpatrick has exhibited work at some of the finest museums and galleries in the world. His paintings and prints are part of some very prestigious permanent collections. But it seems somewheat fitting that Fitzpatrick’s final museum show ever will take place at a venue attached to a place that played a vital role in his formative years. The exhibit, JESUS OF WESTERN AVENUE, recently opened at the Cleve Carney Museum of Art, which is on the campus of College of DuPage. Fitzpatrick attended the Glen Ellyn-based community college for a short period in the early 1980s. He credits COD as the place that help him set his compass.

“Martha Lavey used to always say ‘dearheart at some point when you’re an artist you must know how to meet the moment.’ I never knew what that meant … until now.” - Tony Fitzpatrick.
