“Each pairing came together differently, some were thematic, based on what was actually visually present in the work, others were more about bringing up contrasts and juxtaposing ideas.” - Cleve Carney Museum of Art assistant curator Julia Walker talking about her process for pairing the works.

Classic and contemporary pieces of art are combined in unexpected ways in a new exhibition at the Cleve Carney Museum of Art. The Glen Ellyn-based museum on the campus of College of DuPage is presenting a show titled HOOKING UP. The exhibit pairs classic works by Rembrandt and Andy Warhol with contemporary pieces by local artists like Theaster Gates and Jose Lerma. The unique combinations offer visitors something they’ve never seen before.
