WDCB's Gary Zidek talks to some of the people involved with Steppenwolf Theatre's new radio play adaptation ANIMAL FARM.

“Going back and reading it, it felt like it was new to me, so it gave me room to have whatever fresh interpretation I had. So, when I read it, it felt SO relevant, up-to-the-minute and modern. I had an immediate reaction and an immediate take on it.” - Director Lili -Anne Brown talking about her reaction after rereading George Orwell’s ANIMAL FARM prior to starting work on this new radio play.

The corruptive nature of power and normalization of inequality are among the themes in George Orwell’s celebrated 1945 novella ANIMAL FARM. In some respects the exploration of those themes have felt relevant for the past 75 years, which is why ANIMAL FARM is considered a classic. And it’s why Chicago’s acclaimed Steppenwolf Theatre decided to adapt the work for its education program this fall. Steppenwolf For Young Adults is presenting a radio play version of ANIMAL FARM that’s being made available to students and educators all over the world for free.
