“A lot of the starting point with our current exhibition was, in our early conversations with the ACLU of Illinois, understanding that democracy doesn’t necessarily have a universal defintion anymore.” - Kasia Houlihan, director of Weinberg-Newton Gallery, talking about the organization’s inspiration for it’s new exhibit, ALL THAT GLOWS IN THE DARK OF DEMOCRACY.

A Pew Research survey from this summer revealed that about 6 in 10 U.S. adults are not satisfied with the way democracy is working in America. Democracy used to be something Americans of all political ideologies could get behind. What’s changed? That’s a complicated question, with different answers depending on who you ask.
A new art exhibit at Weinberg-Newton Gallery dives into the topic with hopes of illuminating new ways of thinking about our current political climate. The West River-neighborhood gallery partnered with the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois to create ALL THAT GLOWS IN THE DARK OF DEMOCRACY. The exhibition includes six pieces that each take a different approach to exploring democracy.
