EXPO Chicago Hopes To Engage In Different Ways

The International Exposition of Contemporary and Modern Art, also known as EXPO Chicago, opens Friday September 28 and continues through Sunday September 30. Presented at Navy Pier, 135 galleries from around the world will be displaying work at EXPO Chicago. But the Exposition is more than just a gigantic art fair, there’s a tremendous amount of public programming designed to engage people in unique ways.

Even Chicago-area residents who don’t go to Navy Pier might engage with EXPO Chicago in other ways. For the third year in a row, EXPO Chicago has partnered with the city for a public art initiative known as OVERRIDE: A BILLBOARD PROJECT. Chicago’s City Digital Network of billboards will feature the work of 12 local, national and international artists through October 7. People who happen to glance at one of these billboards might catch a glimpse of a piece created by artists Theaster Gates, Judy Chicago, Douglas Coupland, and Amanda Williams.
