WDCB's Gary Zidek talks to sports journalist Julie DiCaro about her new book, SIDELINED: SPORTS, CULTURE AND BEING A WOMAN IN AMERICA.

“Coming into sports from law, where at least people know the rules, was really a shock. The things that happen (at) stations, in the hallways, the things that go on at the workplace, as if these are normal things, was something that was really shocking to me, and I think that’s when the wheels really started turning.” - Sports journalist & author Julie DiCaro talking about the inspiration to write SIDELINED.

Julie DiCaro’s SIDELINED is part memoir of her own experiences in the sports media landscape and part reporting on the various ways sexism still pervades the professional sports world in general. The book covers a number of contemporary issues that have garnered widespread debate and discussion in recent years, including how we treat male athletes, the lack of female representation in sports media and the ugliness that is spread on social media. DiCaro uses sports as a jumping off point for a broader conversation about how women are treating in every day life.

SIDELINED: SPORTS, CULTURE AND BEING A WOMAN IN AMERICA is available everywhere books are sold.
