The Dueling Critics, Kerry Reid and Jonathan Abarbanel, review Steep Theatre's world premiere THE LEOPARD PLAY, OR SAD SONGS FOR LOST BOYS.

“It appears to be very autobiographical. It’s given, for me, a very well-acted and visceral production, directed by Laura Alcalá Baker and it’s an excellent showcase for a longtime Steep Theatre ensemble member Brandon Rivera in the central role of Son.” - Jonathan Abarbanel’s thoughts on Isaac Gomez’s THE LEOPARD PLAY, OR SAD SONGS FOR LOST BOYS.

Chicago playwright Isaac Gomez’s THE LEOPARD PLAY, OR SAD SONGS FOR LOST BOYS is making its world premiere at Steep Theatre. Gomez’s LA RUTA premiered at Steppenwolf in 2018, that work was inspired by the epidemic of missing and murdered Mexican women who live and work in ciudad Juarez.  THE LEOPARD PLAY is set in Juarez’s American sister city El Paso, which is where Gomez grew up. At the heart of the play is a young man (Son) who lives in Chicago and is returning home for the first time in a decade. Once back in El Paso, Son is confronted with some of the issues he wanted to forget.
