Fictional Characters Shine Light On Real History of The Jane Collective

A fascinating, but little-known piece of women’s history is the source material for the new novel, ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS CALL. The book shines a light on the efforts of the real-life Jane Collective that operated in Chicago, helping women access reproductive care in the early 70s. Bestselling author Kerri Maher created a cast of fictional characters to bring this somewhat forgotten story to life. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS ASK is set in the years leading up to the landmark Roe Vs. Wade decision, when abortion was illegal in most of the United Stated. A group of citizens that was affiliated with the Chicago Women’s Liberation Union took it upon themselves to provide women with a range of reproductive health services. The book presents the viewpoints of three distinct characters navigating this uncertain moment in history.
