A Chicago theater company is commemorating 15 years of it’s pioneering sensory-friendly efforts with some special programming this summer and fall. Chicago Children’s Theatre has been delighting young theater-goers since 2005. The company became one of the first theater organizations in the country to present programming designed for kids on the autism spectrum. The initiative, called the Red Kite Project, became a model other organizations looking to be more inclusive.

Chicago Children’s Theatre is launching the Red Kite Friendship Tour, a series of free, sensory-friendly live theater experiences traveling for seven performances around the city, through August 15. The theater is also bringing back Camp Red Kite, a three-week summer performing arts day camp, July 24-August 11 at the company’s West Loop home. Then in the fall, the company will present a series of Red Kite classes and workshops, held after school and weekends.
