One of the Chicago-area’s longest running radio programs is celebrating a milestone anniversary. WDCB’s THOSE WERE THE DAYS will be commemorating its 50th anniversary with special in-person event on Sunday April 10 at the Irish American Heritage Center in Chicago.

THOSE WERE THE DAYS was originally created by Hall of Fame broadcaster Chuck Schaden, who wanted to share his passion for the Golden Age of radio. The show made its debut on WTLD, a small station in Evanston, on May 2nd 1970.  In 2001, the show came to WDCB and has been here ever since, airing on Saturdays 1 to 5pm.  Mr. Schaden retired in 2009, that’s when Steve Darnall took over hosting duties.

The THOSE WERE THE DAYS celebration will feature Schaden and Darnall, as well as live re-creations of classic moments from the Golden Age of Radio, with the help of guests: Rich Koz (Svengoolie), Tim Kazurinsky (Saturday Night Live), Scott Lowell (Queer as Folk), Kevin Murphy and Mary Jo Pehl (both from the Peabody Award-winning Mystery Science Theater 3000) and Jim O’Heir (Parks and Recreation).
