“We’re excited to explore further how to have film events that you can participate in either in-person or zoom-in virtually. We’ve installed technology throughout FACETS, in four different spaces, that can allow for that to happen, and I think that opens exciting doors.” - FACETS executive director Karen Cardarelli talking about the different ways to present programming.

While many local cinemas reopened the moment they were allowed, others have taken a slower approach. Chicago-based FACETS is in that later category, the organization’s brick-and-mortar location in the Lincoln Park neighborhood has been closed since mid-March of 2020. Pre-pandemic, the film-focused non-profit was a haven for local cinephiles, helping audiences discover rare independent and international fare for over 45 years. FACETS executive director Karen Cardarelli, who started in her current role in February of 2020, is excited to resume those offerings, and more, when the organization’s physical space reopens to the public on Friday September 17.
