“I spent time thinking about places that endured for a long time. The pandemic closed a lot of iconic restaurants. But then, it made me realize there are these places that have been around for decades and decades and decades. And so, we decided to do an issue on iconic eats, and we picked dishes that have been around for at least 10 years, but most of them have been around for much, much longer.” - Chicago magazine dining editor Amy Cavanaugh talking about the inspiration for the new Chicago’s Iconic Eats special edition.

Chicago is a town that loves its food. And we all have our go-to favorite dishes that bring us joy every time we order them.  What would be on your list of iconic local menu items?

Chicago magazine is weighing in on the topic with a special summer release titled CHICAGO’s ICONIC EATS. The standalone publication, which is currently on newsstands, highlights 50 of the city’s all-time favorite menu items.

The special edition features some gorgeous photographs of some of Chicago’s most mouth-watering specialties. The list will also likely inspire some heated food-related debates, but when it comes to great food there are no losers.
