LISTEN

WDCB's Gary Zidek talks to Chicago magazine dining editor Amy Cavanaugh about Chicago restaurants navigating the reopening process and a new Chicago-centric cookbook.

“I am sticking with take-out for the foreseeable future, which is easy to do when there are so many restaurants that are still offering take-out. I think a lot of them recognize that even if they can fill their patio and even if they can open partly for (indoor) dining, that’s still not enough for them to make ends meet. So, I think a lot of these places are just going to continue offering take-out and delivery for the foreseeable future.” - Amy Cavanaugh talking about the increasingly necessary shift to take-out and delivery options at Chicago restaurants.

Chicago-area restaurants and bars are still grappling with the ramifications of the COVID-19 pandemic. Even though all four regions of the state are now in phase-4 of the RESTORE ILLINOIS plan, most local dining and drinking establishments face tremendous challenges as they navigate the new normal of indoor capacity limits, increased carry-out orders and uncertainty for what the future holds.

WDCB’s Gary Zidek caught up with Chicago magazine dining editor Amy Cavanaugh to talk about a variety of food-related topics, including: how Chicago restaurants are coping with the current restrictions, the “take-out” edition of Chicago magazine’s Best New Restaurant list and Chicago’s first ever cookbook, which features recipes from some of the area’s most celebrated chefs and bartenders.
