WDCB's Gary Zidek talks to Lyric Opera president & CEO Anthony Freud about the company's recently-announced 2020-21 season.
“Every great opera performance has at its heart a great conductor. Thankfully, Andrew has been that great conductor for an enormously wide-range of repertoire and performances through his 21 years as music director.” - Lyric president & CEO Anthony Freud looking back at Sir Andrew Davis’ tenure as the company’s music director.
Lyric Opera released the details of its 2020-21 season. The opera company’s 66th season includes 10 major productions and a number of one-night-only events including a special concert celebrating the tenure of longtime music director Sir Andrew Davis. The acclaimed conductor will retire from his role of Lyric music director at the end of the 20-21 season.
Some highlights to keep an eye open for:
Davis will conduct three operas in his final season as Lyric’s music director, including the North American premiere of LESSONS IN LOVE AND VIOLENCE.
Lyric’s music director designate Enrique Mazzola will conduct Missy Mazzoli’s contemporary work PROVING UP early in 2021.
Lyric will close its 2020-21 season with the musical SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN.
