WDCB's Gary Zidek talks to Lyric Opera general director Anthony Freud & music director Sir Andrew Davis about programming the 2018/19 season.
"It's a very complicated range of issues that have to be taken into account, have to be quantified, and have to be balanced in reaching a season that is both, artistically exciting and financially viable" - Lyric Opera general director Anthony Freud.
Lyric Opera's 2018/19 Season will kick-off with a new production of La Bohème
Lyric will continue Wagner’s epic Ring cycle, with a production of Siegfried, that will include a giant dragon on stage
Lyric will present a French-language version of Cinderella, Cendrillon, which will be conducted by Sir Andrew Davis.
A little something different from Cendrillion, Lyric will present Elektra in the winter of 2019.
Lyric Unlimited will present the Midwest premiere of An American Dream, by composer Jack Perla in March 2019.
Following the operas of the 2018/19 Season, Lyric will present a new co-production of West Side Story May 3 – June 2, 2019. Francesca Zambello will direct this Lyric premiere with original choreography by Jerome Robbins, (the conductor, choreographer, and cast will be announced later).
