Chicago’s Luxembourg community doesn’t get a lot of attention, but the city has a significant connection to the small European country. There are estimates that around 200,000 Chicagoans can trace their heritage to Luxembourg, which is remarkable when you consider the country’s entire population is only 600,000. Tens of thousands of Luxembourgers are estimated to have immigrated to the United States between the mid-19th and early 20th centuries. The home office for the Luxembourg American Cultural Society sits about 120 miles north of Chicago in Belgium Wisconsin.
