“I’ve always loved to sing, even as a child. In high school I really got the bug. I was involved in everything artistic and musical when I was in high school. I was in a musical group, and after I graduated from high school I was always involved with some type of singing group.” - Dee Alexander talking about her lifelong passion for singing.
The warm, soulful voice of Dee Alexander has been delighting music fans for years. The Chicago native is among the most celebrated vocalists working today. Thanks to her wide-ranging vocal talents, Alexander is able to take on an extensive catalog of songs. For her next project, Alexander is collaborating with the Metropolitan Jazz Octet to celebrate the artistry of Billie Holiday.
“You could feel whatever it is that she was going through at the time. When she was happy, I could feel that, when she was sad, I could feel that.” - Dee Alexander talking about what she appreciates about Billie Holiday’s artistry.
Alexander and the MJO have already recorded an album, IT’S TOO HOT FOR WORDS will be released later this year. In the mean time, Alexander and ensemble will performing a series of concerts this summer, including a performance on July 12 at Studio5 in Evanston
