WDCB's Gary Zidek talks to author Brian Jay Jones about his new book, BECOMING DR. SEUSS: THEODOR GEISEL AND THE MAKING OF AN AMERICAN IMAGINATION.
“Even if you’re 70-years old, you probably grew up with Dr. Seuss, he’s been doing it that long. But because of that, he sort of exists in our imaginations fully formed. What I hope people will do is, read this, and realize it took him a long time to get to become who we think of as Dr. Seuss.” - Brian Jay Jones talking about the Ted Geisel’s journey to becoming the children’s book author and illustrator we all remember.
Considered by many to the most popular children’s book author of all-time, there’s a bit of mystery behind Ted Geisel. How much do weknow about the Pulitzer Prize-winning writer and illustrator who worked under the name Dr. Seuss?
The new comprehensive biography, BECOMING DR. SEUSS: THEODOR GEISEL AND THE MAKING OF AN AMERICAN IMAGINATION, dives deep into the real Seuss story.
Geisel wrote more than 60 books over the course of his career. His first children’s book, AND TO THINK THAT IS SAW IT ON MULBERRY STREET was published in 1937. His last book was OH, THE PLACES YOU’LL GO!, which was published in 1991. His most popular book (sales-wise), is his 1960 release, GREEN EGGS AND HAM.
