WDCB's Gary Zidek talks to City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events Commissioner Mark Kelly about new Flying Creature Project.
"It's such a wonderfully funky street. First of all, the nine blocks between Lake and Harrison, it becomes almost iconic because of the "L" structure going down. It's dark, it's loud. There's a lot of atmosphere on Wabash." - DCASE Commissioner Mark Kelly talking about why Wabash is a great home for public art projects.
Chicago is celebrating the Year of Creative Youth in 2018. Area students have been tasked with designing and making the paper mache-based creatures.
I got an up-close look at the Flying Creature sculptures before they go on display. Students were given creative freedom to make whatever type of flying creature they wanted.
Keep your eyes up, the Flying Creature sculptures will start landing on Wabash street posts in June (between Lake and Harrison).
Chicago's Year of Creative Youth will continue this summer with a number of programs, including a special one-day Year of Creative Youth Festival at Millennium Park on Saturday September 22. To find to more about the year-long initiative go here.
