Old Town School of Folk Music Embraces New Ways of Learning

“We expect to be offering online classes well into the future, we think it’s going to be a new a line of business for the school, a new way of connecting with students.” - Old Town School of Folk Music CEO Jim Newcomb talking about continuing some remote instruction offerings even after the school’s physical space re-opens to students.

The Old Town School of Folk Music has been teaching courses in a wide variety of performance disciplines for over 60 years. But the Chicago institution had to deal with an unprecedented challenge when COVID-19 mandates forced the school to close its physical doors. The Old Town School quickly pivoted by embracing technology to offer courses online.
