“To some degree it was the pandemic, we usually make one big, new show every year that I host, which is some sort of tour of the Chicago-area. We are in a situation right now, where we really had to think about ‘what can we do?’ You know, the drone is sort of the ultimate in social distancing, filming from 400 feet in the air.” - WTTW’s Geoffrey Baer talking about the inspiration for CHICAGO FROM THE AIR.
WTTW’s Geoffrey Baer (2018)
WTTW’s Geoffrey Baer has been taking us along on his explorations of the Chicago metro area for over a quarter of a century. Who among us hasn’t been sucked into one of his specials on Chicago neighborhoods or local customs at some point on a weekend afternoon. Baer’s newest program is set to premiere on Thursday November 19, and it will offer viewers something they rarely see … a view from above.
An overhead look at Chicago’s street grid system
Baer’s new program, CHICAGO FROM THE AIR, takes viewers above it all, giving us a rare overhead view of the city and surrounding suburbs. The shift in vantage point reveals a lot about the region’s history.
