Thirty-three year old filmmaker Riley Stearns explores themes of muscularity and loneliness in his new movie, THE ART OF SELF DEFENSE. It stars Jessie Eisenberg as Casey Davies a meek accountant who begins taking a karate class after being viciously attacked by a motorcycle gang one night.

THE ART OF SELF DEFENSE has a FIGHT CLUB vibe. Turns out the mysterious dojo operated by the ultra-macho “sensei” isn’t what it appears to be. The movie’s dark, absurdist tone might turn off some viewers. But there are some funny moments.
