WDCB's Gary Zidek talks to Pivot Arts founder & director Julianne Ehre about the upcoming Pivot Arts Festival.
“I saw a need for an organization that could support artists who were working outside mainstream theaters, that were doing work that was considered cutting edge. But I would also say, also really looked to find pieces that are accessible to many audiences”. - Julieanne Ehre, director of Pivot Arts talking about the organization’s mission.
The 7th annual Pivot Arts Festival kicks off Friday May 31 and continues through June 9 at locations in the Uptown and Edgewater neighborhoods. This year’s fest will feature five world premiere performances.
The Pivot Arts Festival will start with the premiere of THE ROSINA PROJECT. The contemporary adaptation of Rossini’s THE BARBER OF SEVILLE is a co-production created by Chicago Fringe Opera and Brave Soul Movement. There will be 3 presentations of THE ROSINA PROJECT, May 31, June 1 & 2 at Alternatives (4730 N Sheridan Rd, Chicago).
The Pivot Arts Festival will also present the premiere of GILGAMESH AND ENKIDU, a production that mixes live music, physical theater and storytelling.
