“It does bridge the gap between traditional network TV structure and what we have today, which is this is the day a show is coming out and you can watch the entire thing on this one day on Netflix. It does still feel like a national event every week when Game of Thrones is on.” - the Daily Herald’s Sean Stangland talking about Game of Thrones “must-see-TV” status.
Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen and Kit Harington as Jon Snow
The first episode of Game of Thrones aired in April of 2011, it had around 2.2 million viewers. The first episode of season 7 that aired in the summer of 2017 pulled in an estimated 10.1 million viewers, and of course that’s not counting the countless others watching episodes through other platforms.

Richard Dormer as Beric Dondarrion in Game of Thrones
Game of Thrones’ final episode will air on May 19. And while there’s a tremendous of pressure on showrunners to end the series on the right note, Sean is pretty confident it won’t disappoint die-hard fans. Sean says unlike other series that have meandered towards the end, the team behind Game of Thrones has had a clear direction and ending point.
Now, for Game of Thrones fans looking for a little extra, Sean and Gary recorded a season 8 preview segment. It’s filled with spoilers for the previous 7 seasons and predictions for the final season.
