"ARC was formed by a group of women artists, who wanted to get together and create a formal space to show both their own work and other women's work. They wanted to have the visual voice of a woman's perspective." - Cheri Reif Naselli, president of ARC Gallery.

One of the country’s first women-run art collectives is celebrating its 45th anniversary this year.

It's challenging for women artists to get recognition from art museums and galleries today.  In 1973, the environment was even harsher, which is one of the reasons ARC was established.

ARC Gallery is moving to a new space in the West Town/Noble Square area of Chicago.

Naselli says the new gallery at 1463 Chicago Avenue will offer some additional space to bring back programming elements like the "RAW space".
