“Lately, it’s been sophisticated soul. I say it’s sophisticated because it’s mature, it’s sexy at times, it’s thoughtful. I think a lot of people could say about mainstream music ‘there’s a lack of depth’, or for a lot of music it’s kind of shallow and trendy, so I try to convey sophisticated soul in my music.” - Sam Trump talking about his current music vibe.

Musician Sam Trump has worked non-stop since arriving in Chicago a little over a decade ago. Now the fruits of those labors are showing up, the vocalist/trumpeter/multi-instrumentalist will be one of the featured performers at the virtual 3Arts Awards Celebration that’s taking place Monday October 19.

Trump was born and raised in Houston, but a music scholarship brought him to Chicago to study music at Columbia College. The Texas native didn’t waste any time immersing himself in the local music scene, and hasn’t looked back. The pandemic has definitely changed things, but Trump hasn’t slowed down. In addition to performing virtually, Trump is putting the finishing touches on an album he hopes to release before the end of the year.
