Comedy legend and local hero John Belushi is the subject of a new documentary that’s set to make its world premiere at the opening night of this year’s Chicago International Film Festival. The film, titled BELUSHI, dives a little deeper than previous biographical projects on the celebrated comedian, painting a nuanced portrait of a creative genius and electrifying performer.

The documentary is built around a collection of audio tapes featuring interviews from the people that were closest to Belushi. It also sheds light on his life before he was among the most famous comedians in the world. Long before the bright lights of Hollywood and the big Saturday Night Live stage, Belushi was a kid from Wheaton Illinois who loved to make his friends and family laugh.
