Music critic Dennis Alsop sits down with renowned conductor Marin Alsop on The Arts Section.

"He gave me the greatest gift a teacher can give a student, which is the belief in myself. A sense that I could really follow my instincts. I didn't have to use my brain so much, I could be emotive. I think that's the hardest thing for young people, is to let go of their self-consciousness and really connect with the musicians and the music." - Conductor Marin Alsop talking about what she learned from legendary composer Leonard Bernstein.

Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Music Director Marin Alsop was named Ravinia’s first artistic curator.  Alsop will both conduct and advise as part of a multi-year celebration of legendary composer Leonard Bernstein.

Among the many Bernstein-related programs coming up at Ravinia is a new production of Bernstein's 1971 work of musical theatre, MASS.  The Alsop-led performance, with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, will take place Saturday July 28. Click here for more details.
